The Power of Knowing Who You Are: Identity in Christ, Purpose, and Confidence
Identity: The Solid Foundation of Leaders Who Know Whose They Are
There is a certain level of aura that comes from people who know themselves. People who already have their established moral values and guiding principles in life. Surely this is a good foundation, but what’s even better is to be divinely covered. To be able to call down heaven on earth, one of which the chosen generation of God is called into.
When it comes to starting a new year, the only acceptable way to do so is to revisit the foundation of our lives. Foundation, both physically and metaphorically, means the ability to carry heavy weight, stop absolute destruction, and withstand external pressures over time. And thinking about what a new year brings, we definitely want to bring in a solid foundation for the coming 12 months. And the best way to start solidifying our foundation is to be firm in our identity. Because leaders who know who they are in Christ lead with confidence and vision
“But ye are a chosen generation… that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness.”
- 1 Peter 2:9 (KJV)
Before we individually discuss the three parts of a stable Christian, we should first clarify that this verse tells us, believers (“...chosen generation”), that our lives are worthy not due to our earthly matters like success, riches and abilities but because God Himself chose us. The God of the Universe set us apart for His purposes. Purposes that are exclusively ours in His plans. This verse highlights our higher purpose: that we are chosen.
In the verse, we, believers, are also called a royal priesthood. In the Old Testament, only the Levite priests were able to serve in the holy temple of God and were able to feel His presence many times. God wasn’t as accessible to abide by. Fortunately, now, by the blood of Jesus Christ, a new covenant is formed where every believer can now access God. Being called a royal priesthood signifies that believers are now given the privilege to approach God with confidence. And this confidence is key to building a relationship with God.
Because once we understand this God-granted confidence, we are now able to find the strength to get close to HIm and build a relationship with HIm. The strongest foundation necessary in order for us to accept being a son or daughter of the Most High King
ACTION & ALIGNMENT: Have an agenda meeting with yourself in a cozy quite place
My story of embracing this confidence is a turning point when I was in the first semester of my senior year in college. What I’ve learned is that “Your world isn’t supposed to be ruling you; you are supposed to be ruling your world. You’re supposed to be regularly utilizing heaven to help you live on earth.”
Mainly because university life, along with its progressive environment and various people from different stages of life, sparked insecurity in me. One that makes me feel small whenever I come across batchmates who are way too accomplished and acknowledged not only in school but also in their respective professional fields.
What’s good is that this insecurity was able to be turned into a healthy one. It became a reason to do better and gave me clarity as to who I really am. Look, everyone around you will always look like they’re going to places you can’t go because you don’t even know where you want to go. You’ll always end up someplace mediocre or simply not ‘for you’. Why? Because you never even graced yourself some time to map out your future. Hence, you keep walking the path of others. And what a huge waste of time and resources!
Which is why it’s really important that before you step into any room once you graduate, you know whose you are, and who you are. You’re aware of your personality, your likes and dislikes and will be able to set healthy boundaries with the vast amount of people you’ll meet as an adult. You’ll also be competent and bold to maximize your potential by taking on challenges because you know whose you are. And your ultimate ‘backer’ is quite literally, a waymaker King.
Before the first semester ended, God set me free from these insecurities because I realized that all the people around me are beloved by God. They’re all His children, loving them as much as He loves me. They just have a faster-paced professional life than mine (hehehe) - remove
To embrace the God-granted confidence as the foundation of your 2026 breakthrough, gently ask yourself these questions:
If I am truly a Child of God, why do I measure my life against anyone else’s?
What if the success I’m chasing is smaller than the promise I’ve already been given?
What would change if I truly believed I already possessed the greatest gift I could ever receive?
Like me, I realized that I shouldn’t be looking left or right but rather focus on my own lane because of the promise that I am a privileged Child of God who can move mountains through faith. And the reassurance that the best thing I could gain on this earth, I already did. My heavenly piece on earth is found in Jesus.
